Public Hearing - Amendments to CCSB Policy 6GX-10-6.85 Hazardous Walking Conditions
Issue/Rationale
The current Board policy needs revision to provide a document that is easier to interpret and aligns itself with Florida Statutes. Our current policy is, and this revision continues to be, more conservative toward safety than Florida Statutes. We feel we should maintain a strong identity toward safety. However, all governmental agencies having jurisdiction for safe walkways and law enforcement agencies responsible for crossing guards strictly utilize Florida Statutes. This revision, while still more conservative than Florida Statutes, will allow a focused discussion with the responsible agencies on walkpaths considered hazardous, developing faster response and agreement on correction. We have little means to attain correction on deficiencies that are defined more conservative than Florida Statutes. It is our view that this revision does not decrease the perspective of safety and would provide us a better document to work with governmental and law enforcement agencies.
