Agenda Item #21 Item Title C-24 2006-2007 Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program Grant (Revised) Issue/Rationale Due to an increase in the number of homeless students attributed to the expansion of the term "homeless" as defined in legislation, the SDCC must identify and serve all homeless school-age children by attempting to eliminate barriers to receiving a free and appropriate public education. The grant funding supplements school district funding to ensure that homeless children and youths have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as provided to other children and youths in Clay County. Recommended Action Approve the 2006-2007 Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program Grant as submitted. Financial Impact The School District of Clay County is requesting $93,089.00 for the 2006-2007 school year to increase services to all homeless children in Clay County. The requested funds will include funding for an additional school social worker assistant among other services. Submitted By Norma Martin Attachment: Homeless Grant.pdf |
