On February 22, 2008, Alissa Beter was on the campus of Orange Park High School with her son attending the orientation session for rising 9th grade students.  As she was leaving the campus she stepped on a curb which was defective and which crumbled under her causing her to fall in the parking lot of the school.  She suffered injuries to her shoulder and arm which required extensive medical treatment, including surgery.  Settlement was reached at mediation attended by Board Chairman Carol Studdard, Dr. George Copeland and Bruce Bickner.  Total settlement for all claims is $55,000.00
