C-12 Change the Adult and Community Education's Calendar from two semesters to three trimesters per year
Issue/Rationale
Proposed Changes to ACE for 2013-2014
1. Change from semesters ($45 each) to Trimesters ($30 each)= $90 per year for Florida resident one year or more ($120 each)= $360 per year for Florida resident for less than one year.
Justification for changing from Semesters to Trimesters:
A. DOE requires reporting three times a year: Fall Survey, Winter Survey and Summer Survey.
B. Currently, ACE operates under semesters or two reporting periods.
C. ACE does not have a Summer session. Summer is split between the Fall and Winter reporting periods. This has created an issue with our reporting.
D. In order to align our collection of monies to the three reporting periods, it is recommended that we have three terms or trimesters.
E. Many students have difficulty affording $45 per session. This is especially true after paying $30 per session in years past.
F. Our reporting cycle in FOCUS must be separate from our K-12 system as reporting surveys are not the same. Our start/end dates need to be entered as specified below.
2. Proposed Calendar for 2013-2014:
Trimester 1/Survey W: August 13, 2013 -December 19, 2013
Trimester 2/Survey S: January 8, 2014- May 9, 2014

Financial Impact
We hope to increase enrollment, which in-turn would become a financial benefit to Adult Education and the District.
