Agenda Item #20 Item Title C-22 Continue training in the Safe Crisis Management Program for ESE employees for school year 2011-2012. Issue/Rationale Currently school personnel must manage students physically for the protection of the student and others. In crises situations, where the student or others are in imminent danger, this sometimes requires physical restraint as permitted by law. Personnel have been trained and implemented this program for the past several years. This program provides an effective, safe management technique for the restraint of students whose crisis behaviors require personnel to intervene. The program promotes safety and reduces the potential liability. It is now required for employment for Behavioral Health Assistants. These employees typically work with students on the autism spectrum (ASD) with emotional/behavioral disabilities (E/BD) or they may serve as Individual Assistants. Recommended Action Approve continuation of training in the SCM Program. Financial Impact Training will be required in some job positions. Initial training of trainers is supported by grant funds. Updating and training of most Clay personnel is then provided by these trainers. Both ESE funds and grant funds are then utilized, costing approximately $25,000.00 per year. Submitted By Terry D.
