On April 24, 2010, Grace Labrecque was a 5 year old kindergarten student at Plantation Oaks Elementary School. She was injured when she jumped from a piece of playground equipment during recess. As a result she suffered several compression fractures in her back. Post injury the minor plaintiff was confined to hospital homebound for several months and is now restricted from any physical activities at school. Medical bills paid by Medicaid were over $5,000.00 and resulted in a lien.  Uninsured past medical bills totaled $3600.00. Future medical costs are uncertain. Settlement was reached at mediation by consensus among Board chairman Carol Studdard, Dr. George Copeland and Bruce Bickner.  Total settlement for all claims is $15,000.00.
