Agenda Item #20 Item Title C-20A Permission for ESE Specialist to travel out of state to attend training at Center for Learning Differences Education at Trident Academy July 20-31, 2015 Issue/Rationale The Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction was designed to assist students with dyslexia. A multi-sensory approach, it incorporates auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learning pathways and benefits all learners. The Orton-Gillingham approach provides another research based tool for students with disabilities to achieve reading success. There are a limited number of accredited training programs. Participating in this training program at the Center for Learning Disabilities Education at Trident Academy will allow the district to maximize training opportunities while saving funds. Permission is sought to send Vickie Wucher, ESE Specialist, to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina July 20-31, 2015. Ms. Wucher has relatives relatively close to the training location that will provide housing and meals. District cost will be the tuition (including materials) and travel. Recommended Action Approve permission to travel out of state Financial Impact Approximately $1600 funded through Medicaid dollars.
