Agenda Item #28 Item Title C-28 2008-09 Fire Control Annual Inspection Report conducted by the Clay County Fire Department Issue/Rationale Florida Statutes and State Board Rules require the School Board to receive and approve the Fire Control Inspections prior to submission to the State Fire Marshal. Local Fire Control authorities are required to inspect Educational Facilities within their Fire Control Districts. Reports are required to be filed with the School Board and the local site Administrators. These Inspection Reports were performed by the Clay County Fire Department as required by law. Although the reports received are not all inclusive of the School Districts schools and ancillary buildings, we are submitting to the Board that which the local fire authority has submitted to the School District and the State Fire Marshal for the 2008-2009 school year. It is important to note that the reports submitted are not in compliance with F.S. 1013.12. The 2008-09 reports were addressed in a meeting on October 8, 2009 with Rebecca Lavie, Attorney for Board of County Commissioners and Clu Wright, Clay County Fire Marshal. It was agreed that the reports received to date were incomplete. All future annual inspections would be in compliance with the above mentioned Statute and would be submitted to the Clay County School District Code Enforcement Department prior to May 1st of the reporting year. It should also be noted that the adoption of County Ordinance 2008.38 provides for the local Fire Authority to set up a fee schedule for the inspection of District Schools and Ancillary Facilities. The 2008-09 fee of $1,250.00 was agreed upon in the above mentioned meeting based on square footage of the schools and ancillary buildings inspected in 2008-09. The estimated amount to be paid in 2009-10 will be $3,500.00. Recommended Action Approve the District required 2008-2009 Fire Control Inspection Report and authorize submission to the State Fire Marshal. Financial Impact All operation deficiencies identified within the inspections will be corrected by schools. Submitted By Larry F.
