1. School Safety Discussion | |||
Minutes: This was a joint workshop with all members of the Clay County School Board and all members of the Clay County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) present. Opening remarks were made by Clay County Superintendent of Schools Addison Davis, and by Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels, each expressing their views and understanding of the requirements of House Bill 7026 and the assignment of School Resource Officers in all district public schools. Both Superintendent Davis and Sheriff Daniels voiced their concerns over funding issues and budgetary shortfalls in meeting the requirements of the law. Discussion took place between the two Boards about their respective budgets and possible options for additional funding sources. It was noted that a dedicated funding source through ad valorem tax may be the best option. The School Board will take up further discussion of its funding options at a Special Board meeting on April 23, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. |
