C35 - Wilkinson Junior High School (WJH) HVAC Replacement Buildings 1, 4, & 5 Contract Award
This project is listed in the 2016/2017 Educational Facilities Plan. Replace heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) in buildings 1, 4, & 5. The award of a construction project in excess of $50,000.00 requires School Board approval. The bid opening was held March 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The project had one (1) bidders that met the bid requirements.
SDCC educational facilities should provide a safe and efficient environment for all stakeholders. Unreliable and malfunctioning HVAC units result in less than optimal working conditions and can directly affect student performance. Additionally, older units are generally less efficient and require increased maintenance attention in time, material cost, and energy.
Current HVAC systems at WJH have reached the end of their useful life and should be replaced with a more energy efficient solution. HVAC units are designed to be serviceable for 15 to 20 years depending upon use. Units of this age require more maintenance attention resulting in increased costs in manpower, parts replacement, and energy consumption to keep them operating in an acceptable condition.
Replacement of these units will result in a more reliable comfort level for students, teachers, and staff and reduce operational costs through increased efficiency.
Ensure effective management of the organization, operations and facilities to maximize the use of resources and promote a safe, efficient and effective learning environment for Clay County students.
Award the construction contract to the low bidder, meeting specifications, W. W. Gay Mechanical the base bid in the amount of $367,267.00.

Cost of the project is $367,267.00. Funds are available and budgeted in the Educational Facilities Plan.
