Title
C10 - Renewal of "Collegiate High School Contract Between Clay County School Board and District Board of Trustees of St. Johns River State College"
Description

A collaborative agreement between the St. Johns River State College and the School Board of Clay County for Dual Enrollment purposes.  This agreement renews the contract for another year with Orange Park High School to host a planned curriculum and schedule for high school students. For the 2017-18 school year, OPHS will have 9th and 10th graders participating in a program that maps out a Dual Enrollment schedule on the school site.  In addition, Middleburg High School will come online with a similar program, beginning with the 9th grade cohort.  As students progress through the grades, the goal is to have each cohorts 12th grade students become full time college students on the SJRSC campus in Orange Park.

Gap Analysis

Through the intentional work and collaboration of the two organizations and Curriculum and Instructon, the program has gained momentum in these two communities (OPHS and MHS).  The district will continue to identify students who are eligible for this opportunity by reviewing student grades and goals.

Previous Outcomes

Clay County has had a positive working relationship with SJRSC and this agreement benefits the students of the district by allowing them to earn both college credits and high school credits at the same time.  For the 2016-17 year, OPHS had 42 students in the 9th grade cohort who will progress to the second year of the planned curriculum. Of the 42 students, there was a 100% passing rate ("C" or higher) in the dual enrollment courses.  FOr 2017-18, OPHS has "61" students enrolled.  Middleburg High School will begin the program with 61* students in their 9th grade cohort for the 2017-18 school year.

*MHS does not begin the program until 2017-18

Expected Outcomes

Clay County will continue to provide college level courses on the two sites and to promote the "Collegiate High School" initiative.

Strategic Plan Goal

The district will work closely with SJRSC in order to better advise students on the postsecondary opportunities available to all eligible students.  In addition, students who successfully pass a course earn acceleration points for their home schools while preparing themselves for college level work.

Recommendation

Approval of the 2017-18 agreement between St. Johns River State college and the School Board of Clay County for the "Collegiate High School " program at  OPHS and MHS.
