School Board of Clay County
December 6, 2018 - Regular School Board Meeting
Title
D2 - Recommendation to adjust the Superintendent's salary (Item submitted by Mrs. Bolla)
Description

The intended outcome is to recognize and reward the Superintendent’s accomplishments for the past 24 months which include, but are not limited to: An increase in our graduation rate; returning CCSD to being an “A” rated district; improving the standing of our School District from 18th to the top 10 in the State (8th); representing Clay County Schools in Leadership Florida III; completing Commissioner of Education training for Accelerating Student Achievement; completing Commissioner of Education training for Closing the Achievement Gap; STEM 4th Generation training; building an additional school in an overcrowded area of  the district – debt free. The Superintendent is responsible for the operation of the largest organization in Clay County with an operating budget of over $400 million.

Gap Analysis

There is historical precedence set regarding a salary adjustment for former Superintendents. In addition, salaries for comparable School Districts in surrounding counties average $25,000 more (ex. St. John’s, Alachua, Flagler and Marion)

Previous Outcomes

School Board Policy 1.03B states that the salary of the Superintendent is to be reviewed annually. This has not been accomplished in the past 24 months. Previous requests for a workshop to discuss an evaluation of the Superintendent’s salary have been made since August.

Expected Outcomes

Talent retention – Clay County’s former Superintendent had leadership experience that was misaligned with the instructional needs of the District. The current Superintendent, an educator with strong experience in leadership and with a vision to improve the educational opportunities for our children, works diligently to ensure Clay County District Schools’ success. It would be favorable to retain this Superintendent.

Strategic Plan Goal

Goal 4: Developing Great Educators and Leaders: recruit, develop and retain talented teachers and school district leaders able to lead Clay County District Schools to become a top-tier School District in Florida.

Recommendation

Clay County School Board approves acceptance of the salary adjustment for the Superintendent for the 2018-19 school year.
