This contract was originally submitted and approved by the Board on October 5, 2017.  Sherry Parrish of Parrish and Associates, Inc. was to provide training on January 3, 2018 for Number Talks for a flat fee of $4000. 

A severe winter storm forced the closing of our district on January 3rd.  Ms. Parrish was en route to Jacksonville prior to the official announcement.  The training has been rescheduled for February 20, 2018 with an increase of $924.54 (travel expenses incurred for the canceled training.)

About Number Talks: 

Number Talks is a five-to fifteen-minute classroom conversation around purposefully crafted computation problems that are solved mentally.  This resource was created in response to the requests of teachers-those who want to implement Number Talks but are unsure of how to begin and those with experience who want more guidance in crafting purposeful problems.

• Math performance has been declining over the past 3 years with a need to develop teachers’ mathematical knowledge and instructional skills.
• INTEL math baseline assessments continue to reflect teachers scoring below 52% on K-8 Math content.

241 of teachers from 26 schools have participated in this training and integrated their new learning into their instructional practice.

100 teachers will integrate new mental math strategies in their practice to increase student understanding of mathematical concepts.  Student achievement will increase in mathematics.

Goal 1:  Produce consistent high-quality, rigorous instruction in every classroom across the district.

Approve the agreement between SBCC and Parrish and Associates, Inc. for professional development for teachers of mathematics.
