Title
C14 - Clay County Sheriff's Office Secondary Employment Contract
Description

This agreement is between the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the SBCC and concerns the hiring of deputies for athletic events at the secondary level.  The attendance at these functions requires security to be provided and help support the administrative staffs at the secondary schools.

Gap Analysis

N/A

Previous Outcomes

The CCSO has provided this service for the last 20 years.  The District budgets monies to reimburse the schools for this service.  Each secondary school is given a set amount of money that covers the football seasons and then the winter sports season. For the high schools, the following amounts were budgeted:

  • $3300 for varsity and/or JV football;
  • $1500 for Winter sport season

Junior High schools were budgeted the following amount for the entire year:

  • $1000

Schools are aware of the guidelines in the agreement and work with the CCSO scheduler to assign the events.  School leadership determines which games that security will be required.  In previous years, the hourly rate was as follows:

  • $26.00 per hour for the deputy;
  • $25.00 per hour for the scheduling fee, this is based on a formula found in the agreement;
  • $30.00 per hour for a supervisor if the number of deputies exceeds 5 per event.

No school exceeded their assigned budgets for the 2016-17 year.  If they did, the school would cover the cost from internal dollars.

Expected Outcomes

For the requested agreement - 2018-19 - the costs will increase to the following:

  • $30.00 per hour for the deputy;
  • $25.00 per hour for the scheduling fee, this is based on a formula found in the agreement;
  • $34.00 per hour for a supervisor if the number of deputies exceeds 5 per event.

This department is requesting the same amount to cover these costs: $40,000.

Strategic Plan Goal

This agreement concerns safety of students, employees, and those in attendance.  This has to be a priority for the district events.

Recommendation

To approve the agreement between the CCSO and SBCC.
