In accordance with School Board Policy, State Requirements for Educational Facilities, and Florida Statutes, an architect is required to be appointed by the Board for this type of project.

Gap Analysis:

DOE encourages the reuse of existing plans where appropriate as a cost saving measure.  Additionally, Florida Statute 287.055 (10) allows an appointment, without advertisement, to an architectural firm on a reuse basis provided the original project design being used was advertised accordingly.  This is a reuse of a Bhide and Hall plan used for Rideout Elementary and Coppergate Elementary.

Expected Outcomes:

Coppergate Elementary was a reuse of Rideout Elementary plans and has proven to be a reliable design and relatively maintenance friendly school.  By reusing these plans, we will be able to expedite the design phase (bring plans up to current code) and commence construction sooner in order to meet a 2018/19 school opening.

School Board approve Bhide and Hall Architects, P.A. at a fee of 4.1% of the construction cost for Elementary School “Y” architectural services.  Authorize the Superintendent to sign the contract for the School Board following approval of the Educational Plan Spot Survey by DOE.
