Title D6 - Public Hearing and vote on adoption of district-wide K-12 Math Instructional Materials | ||
Description After a thorough review of available curriculum options from traditional publishers and open source resources, a pre-selection committee of reviewers comprised of teachers and district staff members convened for three days to assess potential products for adoption. The committee worked in grade-level teams and subject teams to apply rigorous alignment criteria from the Instructional Materials Evaluation Rubric to the potential products. Products which failed to meet the rubric criteria were eliminated from the review. All teams submitted summative ratings on the products they reviewed. The top two products were presented to math teachers across the district for feedback. Material information was placed on the district website and materials were available at the Teacher Training Center on October 4th, November 1st, and December 6th from 5 pm to 7 pm. The final recommendation was made by the district adoption committee comprised of the preselection committee chairs, a professional development representative, an instructional resource representative, a digital integration representative, and principal representatives convened to review the preselection committee reviews, teacher feedback, public comments, and the materials. The instructional materials proposed for adoption through this agenda item are subject to the provisions of section 1006.28, Florida Statutes. After the approval of materials by the School Board, a parent of a Clay County District Schools’ student or a Clay County resident may file a petition contesting the adoption of these instructional materials within thirty (30) days after the date of the adoption (which is no later than February 7, 2019). The petition is available on the District's website at www.oneclay.net. If the School Board receives any timely and properly completed petition(s), with the thirty days after the 30-day period has expired, the School Board must conduct at least one open public hearing on all petitions timely received. The petitioner will receive written notification of the date and time of the hearing at least seven days prior to the hearing. The School Board’s determination at the end of the hearing is final and not subject to further petition or review.
