Title
C7 - Tuition fees for 3 Year Olds in Montessori program at Swimming Pen Creek Elementary
Description

The Montessori Program has proven to be a successful CCDS School Choice program and is at capacity with a wait list of students vying to join the program. The Montessori program at Swimming Pen Creek Elementary currently serves 4-8 year old students (Pre-K-third).  Swimming Pen Creek is now prepared to expand the program to 3 year old children as per the approved plan in 2018. In order to sustain the Montessori program, the school and district seek approval to charge $10 per day. SPC will add 12 three year olds in the spring of 2020, and looks to have 12 three year olds enrolled each subsequent year. These 12 positions would generate approximately $21,000 annually. Generated funds will support and sustain the Montessori program for costs associated with personnel, materials and curriculum.

This year’s payment schedule:

January (18 days - $180) due January 13th

February (19 days - $190) due February 3rd

March (16 days - $160) due March 2nd

A plan that allows for consistent pricing increments will be developed.

The collected tuition will support the Montessori program by paying for future teacher and assistant training, along with purchasing furniture and curriculum for future classrooms.  Funds can also be used to develop and maintain outdoor spaces such as the community garden and chicken coop, outdoor spaces connected to classrooms, and update an existing play area all of which will resonate with the  Montessori philosophy in the design of natural areas. Lastly, funds can supplement field trips and if necessary additional support personnel.

Gap Analysis

In comparison to local daycare facilities that charge an average of $700 per month, this approximate monthly tuition of $200 would create a savings for families in the range of $500, while also funding the Montessori program as a whole.

*A surrounding district Montessori program charges $327.00/month for 3 AND 4 year olds while SPC’s Montessori program for 4 year olds has been offered at no cost to parents.

Previous Outcomes

Currently General Funds are utilized for all Montessori personnel, materials, and curriculum costs.

Expected Outcomes

With the collection of monthly tuition, the Montessori program can become a self-sustaining program.

Strategic Plan Goal

Goal 1: Develop a High Quality & Aligned Instructional System

Strategy 1: Provide teachers and students with the tools and resources necessary to meet the demands of the Florida Standards and students' individual needs.

Recommendation

That the Clay County School Board approve the tuition at Swimming Pen Creek Elementary for 3 year old participation in the Montessori program.
