Title C11 - Safe and Civil Schools Training Proposal Summer 2020
Description The Multiagency Network for Students with Emotional/Behavioral /disabilities (SEDNET) Administration Project provided funding to the district to fund positive behavioral intervention training for special education staff members. Using research-based positive behavior support strategies, teachers and paraprofessionals will improve their knowledge and practice to support students with behavioral needs. Six elementary schools have been identified based on the percentages of students spending time in self-contained classrooms. The eligible staff members and administrators at WEC, RVE, SPC, MCE, CGE and POE will receive stipends for their participation and all materials will be provided.
Gap Analysis The state has identified mental health supports as a priority for public schools. This training opportunity will help teachers and paraprofessionals, working as a team, improve their skills for managing the self-contained classroom for students with intensive needs. Providing this professional development will assist staff to develop classroom-unified structures to optimize student success.
Previous Outcomes The district has a long history of collaborating with Safe and Civil Schools to provide training and materials for student success. Foundations, CHAMPS, and Discipline in the Secondary Classroom have had widespread use over the years.
Expected Outcomes Providing this high-caliber, research-based professional development to nearly 200 teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators will create a cohesive approach using best practices for those most challenging learners.
Strategic Plan Goal Strategy 3.2. Develop systems and processes that focus on developing the whole child.
