Title C12 - Permission to publish Environmental Science textbook
Description The Instructional Resources Department is seeking the permission to advertise to the public in the Clay Today that the Environmental Science Course #2001340 is up for adoption. A public hearing will be held at the board meeting on June 1, 2017.
Gap Analysis Environmental Science is part of a new science progression launching in the 17-18 school year. The district adopted this environmental course progression and designed it to support the needs of all students; standard, and honors in the pre requisite standards for the biology course #2000310 and 2000320. The Biology course is a graduation requirement. This course can be used to meet one science credit for graduation, as required by the Florida department of Education.
Previous Outcomes Environmental Science #2001340 is up for adoption. State Statute 1006.283 requires a public hearing be posted in a publication 30 days prior to the event in order for the public to be made fully aware of the District's intentions.
Expected Outcomes The public is made aware of the hearing in order to have a voice in the final selection for Environmental Science
Strategic Plan Goal Engage community members and teachers to establish their voices as advocates for Clay County students.
Recommendation Instructional Resources is asking the Clay County School Board to approve the publishing of an advertisement in the Clay Today, informing the public of a hearing on the newly vetted Environmental Science course#2001340.. A Textbook Adoption Committee of certified high school teachers will meet to vet the options for Environmental Science. The committee members will consist of one representative from each high school in the Clay County School District. The review process will be conducted and guided using Student Achievement Partners Instructional Materials Evaluation Tools (IMET), a review of the Florida Standards for Financial Algebra found in CPALMS, and will be verified via a state approved feedback form that the committee use to report their findings. In accordance with the Florida State Statute 1006.283, the CCSB is required to give prior notice of newly selected curriculum.
