Recognitions:

  • Bullying Prevention PSA video winners -28 students; links to the videos will be uploaded to the agenda item;
  • Petticoat Schmitt Civil Contractors - recognize for pro bono work in the approximate amount of $20,000-25,000; OPH baseball program;
  • Founders Week Art Contest winners - 6 students; entries recognize significant historical figures and documents;
  • State Jim Harbin Student Media Festival winners - 70 students; state winners;

Consent:

  • Minutes of previous meetings – routine; the January board meeting was confirmed for January 4, 2018;
  • Personnel Consent Agenda – no discussion;
  • CTE Student Travel – routine; no discussion;
  • Keystone Behavioral Pediatrics Contract – best program for student being served; previous issue with the service provider has been resolved; 
  • Kindred Hospital Contract – provides internships for ESE students;
  • K-12 Student Travel – routine - Supt has talked with the principal regarding late requests by MHS; 
  • Allocation Changes –class size issue at SBJ; allocation adjustment at CHS;
  • Budget Amendments for October – no discussion;
  • Warrants and Vouchers for October – no discussion;
  • Monthly Financial Report for October – no discussion;
  • Routine Property Reports – no discussion;
  • Clay County Utility Authority Agreement for Discovery Oaks Elem – easement/access to water;
  • Pre-Qualification of Contractors – no discussion;
  • Final Completion/ MHS Culinary Arts Renov – remodeled kitchen, floor and plumbing;
  • Spot Survey 6.3 to Educational Plant Survey – to match the Educational Facilities Plan;
  • Schematic/Preliminary Plans & Specs/AICE Facility at FIH – for architectural plans and initial work;
  • Change Order #1 for DOE – direct purchase/$273,000 tax savings;
  • Final Completion/CW Front Entrance Security –MHS, GCJ, KHE, RVE, WEC, main GCS building; Operations Department will look into a concern by the union about location of security cameras at some schools; 
  • Additive Change Order #3/DIS Alarm Replace – extends days on the contract for completion at no cost to the district;

Discussion:

  • 2018 Legislative Priorities - one-pager still in draft; detailed chart also distributed to be a work-in-progress report on financial impacts and program rollouts; Board asked for a more summarized version of the one-pager;  
  • HR Special Actions - one employee case;

Deleted or moved items may result in the renumbering of Consent and Discussion agenda item numbers after the Agenda Review and prior to final publication of the Regular meeting agenda. 

Closing Comments/Questions:

  • The one student discipline case was moved from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
  • Discovery Oaks Elementary School principal position - interviews begin December 4th - internal candidates only;  minimum 3 years at current school; must be highly effective during those 3 years; four applicants so far that qualify; school colors will be neutral palette; will try to include new principal in final decisions;
  • Superintendent reviewing CTE Department structure to determine best options; 
  • Strategic planning process is starting; draft model of initiatives and projects; will send electronically to Board; 
  • December 5, 2017, confirmed for community meeting on rezoning options for Discovery Oaks Elementary;
  • Brief discussion about Clay County Education Foundation; grants timing/outlining projects; Kathy Schofield is still Executive Director; money donated for Carol Vallencourt memorial will be included in grant awards;
  • Board wants to be involved in all media events;
