The Florida legislature recognizes the importance of planning for developing human potential and requires each district to develop a comprehensive Professional Learning Catalog, which outlines the professional learning opportunities available to CCDS teachers.  Each district is required to update, revise, and submit a Professional Learning Catalog to provide a detailed description of each professional learning component. Each unique type of professional learning experience requires a corresponding component. Changes to the professional learning catalog are required to be approved by the board.

Component 9-009-001: There is a need to strengthen educators’ understanding and application of practices that position students as active partners in the learning process. Teachers may need additional support in using student voice and feedback to identify barriers to learning, understand student perspectives, and make responsive instructional decisions. Without a common framework and shared practices, the use of student voice can vary across classrooms and may not consistently influence instructional planning or practice.

Professional learning through the Solving with Students Learning Cadre will provide educators with a structured approach for engaging students as partners in identifying instructional challenges and developing solutions. The learning will build educator capacity to intentionally gather and analyze student feedback, identify patterns in student experiences, and use that information to strengthen instructional strategies. Teachers will apply these practices within their own classrooms, using student surveys and student voice to better understand engagement, learning needs, and classroom experiences.

Component 2-408-006: There is a need to strengthen educators’ understanding and application of evidence-based strategies grounded in the cognitive science of learning. To effectively design instruction that enhances information retention, critical thinking, and student mastery, teachers require explicit models and practical applications of principles such as retrieval practice, spaced learning, and schema building. Establishing a shared knowledge base and consistent pedagogical practices across classrooms will ensure these high-impact strategies translate directly into improved student outcomes.

Professional learning through the Science of Learning (SOL) course will provide educators with a structured framework for translating cognitive research into high-leverage classroom practice. The course will build educator capacity to apply SOL principles in their specific context, aligning with the revised Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPs) that name the cognitive science of learning across multiple standards. By deploying FLDOE-aligned training and resources, this professional learning provides the systemic support required to sustain high academic performance and preserve our district’s 'A' rating amidst rising school grade cut scores and rigorous assessment standards.

The 2026-2027 CCDS Professional Learning Catalog was approved in April 2026.

The CCDS Professional Learning Catalog will include the new components Solving with Students Learning Cadre and Instructional Strategies: Science of Learning, and will allow educators to earn non bankable in-service points for this professional learning opportunity.
