Title
C4 - Parent Liaison Services Agreement 2018-2020
Description

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires explicit activities to support the parents of students with disabilities.

The ESE funded parent liaison serves as an advocate for parents, consults with school and district personnel, attends meetings as requested and provides other support, including a periodic newsletter to families.

Gap Analysis

Parent services are a required component under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Previous Outcomes

The original contract was approved in 2003.  Through the years, the parent liaison has established rapport with, and been a powerful resource for, parents.  This innovative resource has assisted with a collaborative problem-solving approach with families.  The Parent Liaison has helped the district avoid the significant costs associated with potential due process cases and other legal proceedings.

Expected Outcomes

The ESE funded parent liaison effectively collaborates with school personnel and parents/guardians to increase communication and to meet student needs.

Strategic Plan Goal

Strategy 3.2 Develop systems that focus on developing the whole child.

Recommendation

Continue contract for IDEA parent services.
