D2A - Consider School Board Attorney's request to engage special local counsel in Florida Education Association et al. v. School Board of Clay County et al., Case No. 4:17-cv-00414-RH-CAS, United States District Court, Northern District of Florida ("Best and Brightest" lawsuit)
The School Board of Clay County is among 67 school boards across the state named as defendants in a putative class action lawsuit filed in the Tallahassee Division of the Northern District of Florida which asserts age and race discrimination/discriminatory impact claims arising from the "Best and Brightest" program. The School Board Attorney seeks to engage as special local counsel Attorney Leonard J. Dietzen of Rumberger Kirk & Caldwell to assist in the matter. Mr. Dietzen is presently engaged as counsel of record for 14 other school boards in the lawsuit. The School Board Attorney requests the Board to authorize the engagement and to set aside an initial budget of $10,000.00 for the same.
The School Board Attorney recommends approval of the proposed engagement.
