Title C16 - Agreement Between the School Board of Clay County and AMI Kids
Description A collaborative agreement between the School board of Clay County and the AMI Kids Clay County, INC. to address the needs of male students in Clay county. This program works in conjunction with the Department of Juvenile Justice, to provide an educational program and related services for eligible male students (up to 44 students). This program, located at Clay High School, focuses on student needs dealing with specialized counseling, credit recovery services, life skills, positive gender identification, community service learning projects, and career exploration. Students attend the program for approximately 1 year. The collaboration Between the two organization has allowed students to seek an alternative setting to previously unsuccessful environments.
Gap Analysis Although the program has only been in Clay County for 2 1/2 years, the district monitors the program and their interventions that yield positive results in the areas of academics, social behavior, and the number of students who successfully return to their home school.
Previous Outcomes For the 2017-18 year, all students eligible to return to their zoned school (17) did so. The remaining 20 students will begin the year at AMI Kids in August. These 20 students have entered the program at various times throughout the year. Therefore, a return date is most likely at the semester of the 2018-19 year or at the conclusion of the school year (June).
Expected Outcomes By continuing the collaboration with AMI Kids, it is expected that students will be identified by our secondary schools, and Bannerman Learning Center, and notified of AMI Kids services. Once students are enrolled, students begin the counseling program offered and then the credit recovery or original credits programs. Periodic meetings take place to review outcomes and to communicate with the Distront on proposed return dates of the students.
Strategic Plan Goal The District works closely with AMI Kids to develop the whole child. In addition, the goal is to recoup credits that the student is deficient in and/or to strengthen curriculum deficiencies. Counseling and behavior therapy increases the likelihood of success for the students and their subsequent return to their zoned school.
Recommendation The the School Board of Clay County approve the agreement with AMI Kids for the school year 2018-19.
