Item Title
C-24 (Bolla) Authorization to negotiate a contract with Barton Malow, a Construction Management Company, on an emergency basis to replace the roof and resulting remodeling on the County Office at 900 Walnut Street

Issue/Rationale

Authority to negotiate a construction contract on an emergency basis with Barton Malow, a construction manager company who is available and qualifed for this project. Recently, we explored the second floor condition employing a structural engineer to analyze the condition. He has deemed the roof not to be structurally sound and must be replaced completely. His analysis also emphasized that the file room on the second floor is over loaded for the designed 50# per square feet. Steel supports need to be added on the first floor.

The Department of Human Resources must be back in their offices by the end of January, 2007.

Recommended Action
Approve the authority to negotiate a construction contract as requested.

Financial Impact
Local 2 Mill funds will be used to fund this project. $114,000.00 has been budgeted for the project.
