C9 - Amendment Number One to Contract Between Bright Minds Youth Development, Inc. and The School Board of Clay County
Description

Deleting S.B.J. Elementary school; adding Fleming Island Elementary and Orange Park Junior High to program. 

 

This agreement between Bright Minds Youth Development (BMYD) and the School Board concerns the organization utilizing the facilities at 5 schools during the summer in order to provide daily enrichment services and activities for children between the ages of 5 and 16.  BMYD conducts and operates a youth development summer camp to primarily benefit Clay County youth.  The program runs from the end of school to the week prior to teachers returning to pre-planning. The organization utilizes classrooms on the campus of each of the schools (Charles E. Bennett Elementary School; Oakleaf Junior High School; Keystone Heights Elementary School; Ridgeview Elementary School; S. Bryan Jennings Elementary School)Add Fleming Island Elementary and Orange Park Junior High.  Additional schools could be added, at Board approval.

Previous Outcomes

The program has operated in Clay County for the last 3 years at various schools.  Attendance has varied at each of the schools over these years.

Expected Outcomes

Those youths who attend the program will benefit from the program academically as well as social-emotionally.  The District will provide curriculum that will help with academic retention.  The BMYD staff will plan daily activities that will help facilitate educational goals.

Strategic Plan Goal

The District will work with the organization to help increase academic retention so as to improve performance during the school year.  Utilizing the school resources, working with the BMYD staff, participating in educational field trips and monitoring daily activities will coincide with District goals.

Recommendation

Approval of the amendment to the Bright Minds Youth Development contract.

Financial Impact
The organization will pay the District $500 per site used (currently 5 sites = $2,500) for the summer dates.
