Recognitions and Awards
42. Recognition of Clay All-County Academic Team

Minutes: Mike Wingate, Director of K-12 Curriculum, introduced the winning team members: Nabeel Farooq (RHS), Jaeger Henderson (OHS), Erik Horning (RHS), Michael Mancil (OPH), Daniel Olis (RHS). Coaches Susan McInarney and Ken Remsen were thanked for their support of the team who won the 2016 Commissioner's Academic Challenge Division II State Championship.
43. Jacksonville Business Leaders Awards: Kathy Schofield; Clay Hill Elementary

Minutes: Mr. Wingate recognized Clay Hill Elementary and Principal Tracey Kendrick for being selected for the Innovator in Education award. Jacksonville University and the Jacksonville Business Journal sponsors these awards to honor individuals and organizations who have improved the education sector and/or positively impacted the lives of learners. Mrs. Schofield was not able to attend due to a conflict.
44. Recognition of Teachers receiving Social Studies Awards

Minutes: Kelly Watt, Social Studies Curriculum Specialist, recognized the following teachers receiving awards: • LaDonna Hutchingson (SLE) - Clay County's nominee for FCSS's Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year in the elementary division. • Heidi Rothermel (WJH) - Clay County's nominee for FCSS's Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year in the middle school division. • Jay Kilgore (OHS) - Clay County's nominee for FCSS's Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year in the senior high division. (not present) • Cindy Cheatwood (OPJ) - Clay County's nominee for Prentice-Hall's Excellence in Teaching History Award. • Shadreka Smith (RVE) - Clay County's nominee for Holt-McDougal's Warren Tracy Beginning Teacher Award
45. Recognition of Community Business Partner - Dr. Dayn C. Boitet

Minutes: Dr. Suzanne Herndon, Supervisor of Reading and Library Media Services, recognized Dr. Dayn Boitet. Dr. Boitet sponsored a book drive collecting over 300 books to be donated to Clay County schools and for ESOL book houses in the district.
46. Presentation of the Bill Ralls Technology Scholarship

Minutes: Deputy Superintendent Diane Kornegay and Karen Robinson, Instructional Media Specialist, awarded the Bill Ralls Technology Scholarship to Kelsey Corcoran, a student at Fleming Island High School.
47. Recognize Students receiving Perfect Attendance Awards

Minutes: Superintendent Van Zant recognized the following students receiving Perfect Attendance Awards. Kindergarten - 6th Grade: Victoria Jean Sanders (CEB); Eli Christopher Stewart (CHE); Mikala Leigh Wheeler (CHE); Colton Andrew Zapp (FIE); Olivia Grace Paterra (TBE). Kindergarten - 8th Grade: Callie Marie Deel (GCJ); Alexa Janelle Gelin (OLJ). Kindergarten - 12th Grade: Alexis Nicole Peavey.

49. Recognize OPH Student, Liam Davis, for Achievements in Algebra

Minutes: Mrs. Terry Roth, Director of ESE, and ESE Specialist Jennifer Zimmerman recognized Liam Davis for his participation in Algebra Nation an online discussion program that encourages collaboration with other students throughout the state of Florida.

50. ACE Mentoring National Team Presentation

Minutes: Students on the National ACE Mentoring Team from Orange Park High School summarized their annual project recently presented at the 2016 Design Competition with the number one bridge project in the nation. Winning team members: Camden Dean, Destiny Childress, Michael Mancil, Michael Nee-Presenter, Liam Dimarco, and Chris Osborne.

Minutes: Public speakers to this item - Rebecca Smith, Keith Nichols, James Otto. Due to some confusion student Kyle Bisson spoke, not on this topic but about how student GPA's are determined. John Merrill, Assistant Superintendent for Support Services, reviewed the attached PowerPoint on Synovia and the systems that can be monitored through the software. He clarified that this expenditure qualifies for capital projects and does not come from operating costs. Board discussion ensued with varying opinions.

Motion to approve piggybacking off of St. Lucie’s RFP #15-08 for a 60 month lease agreement for 240 school buses, with the option for district departments to also lease additional GPS units for district-owned “White Fleet” vehicles at the unit prices contained in the RFP.- PASS

Superintendent's Requests

Minutes: The 2015-2016 school year ends on June 3rd for students and Superintendent Van Zant reported it had been an excellent school year. He wished students and teachers a safe and enjoyable summer.

School Board's Requests

Minutes: Board Members made comments about a variety of topics, including school events they attended. Mrs. McKinnon spoke briefly about a new professional organization, the Florida Coalition of School Board Members. New language in Florida law specifies that membership dues will now be assessed for individual members. Chairman McKinnon designated Betsy Condon to serve as Clay County's representative on the 2016-2017 FSBA Legislative Committee and Ashley Gilhousen will serve at the alternate.
