Superintendent's Update 1-08-2026.pdf
Minutes:

Superintendent Broskie noted the significant passion in the room and expressed his thankfulness to live in a country where people are free to speak. He stated he wanted to reassure everyone that the district's focus is on the students of Clay County. Comments made that brought people to the meeting do not reflect the mission or values of Clay County Schools. He advised the board has no legal authority to punish Robert Alvero and that only the Governor or Robert Alvero himself can remove him from his position as board member. Mr. Broskie's focus tomorrow morning will be the same as every other morning - it will be on the students, staff, and teachers of Clay County District Schools.

Superintendent Broskie shared the attached visual presentation highlighting the following:

  • Super Students of the Month
  • Finalists for Teacher of the Year and School-Related Employee of the Year
  • 2025 Marching Championships Medalists
  • Planning for 2026-2027
  • Controlled Open Enrollment for 2026-2027
  • Upcoming Events

School Board Member Remarks
23. School Board Member Comments
Minutes:

Mrs. Skipper noted that Mrs. Hanson was absent due to a prior obligation which conflicted with the meeting. Mrs. Hanson regrets not being in attendance to hear from constituents.

Mrs. Clark noted that tonight was a night to listen. She requested prayers for health for Joseph Lorentzson, a former photography teacher at Fleming Island High, who has generously shared his talents with the community, including providing complimentary photographs for the past three years to Adult and Community Education graduates.

Mr. Alvero thanked all of the individuals who attended the meeting to express their concerns. He advised that he has addressed the false accusations in a press release and social media post, and he indicated that a board meeting is not a proper forum for personal or political matters. The focus should be on student issues, and he advised that he is always available should individuals wish to contact him.

Mrs. Gilhousen thanked those in attendance at the meeting for their respectful sharing of concerns with the board. She appreciated the decorum and speaking out on behalf of respect, love, honor, and dignity for fellow man.

Mrs. Skipper extended thanks for the respectful and professional way in which individuals expressed their First Amendment rights. She appreciated those in attendance and reiterated that the board has no legal authority to remove a board member, indicating this decision will be in the hands of the Governor, Commissioner of Education, and Mr. Alvero. As Board Chair, she will focus on the children of Clay County and student-based school business. She regretted that students would not attend the meeting and noted the many positive things being done that make Clay an exceptional district.
