1. Check Presentation to Charles E. Bennett Elementary
Minutes:

Mrs. Kerekes introduced Mrs. Felicia Hampshire who was recently recognized at the state level during Florida's Black History Month where she was given a monetary award from the Phoenix Foundation.  Mrs. Felecia Hampshire, in turn, presented a $1000 check to Charles E. Bennett Elementary School to help with school improvement needs.

2. Check Presentation to Clay County Education Foundation
Minutes:

Mr. Matthew Hutchins, Chair of the Clay Educaton Foundation, introduced Makayla Buchanan as the new Executive Director.  A $15,000 check was presented to the Clay Education Foundation jointly by Wells Fargo, Stem2Hub & MOSH.

3. The Players Center for Child Health at Wolfson Children's Hospital (5 minutes)
Minutes:

As a local task force partner with the school district. Ms. Wright shared information about the state of infants and teens in Clay County, along with recommendations on next steps. She explained the H.O.P.E. curriculum which helps to educate students to live a safe and healthy lifestyle.

Prior to adoption of the Consent Agenda, Lonnie Roberts spoke about item C24, supporting the Insurance Committee's recommendation for employee benefits.

Following the adoption of the Consent Agenda, Chair Studdard acknowledged approval of the proclamation (C16) establishing April as School Library Month.

Minutes:

Superintendent Davis' presentation included an update on the Community Listen & Learns, the state testing window, and the impact of Controlled Open Enrollment.

Motion to approve by Mrs. Kerekes, seconded by Mrs. Bolla.  Discussion followed.

Mrs. Gilhousen had a concern about asking the state legislature to raise the millage after Clay County voters recently approved a local millage increase.  She asked for input from fellow Board members.  Board discussion followed in which it was pointed out that this year's legislative session is almost over and discussions about the Board's legislative priorities need to come much earlier in the year.  Mrs. Bullock asked that specific school names be added under the proposed Choice Programs.

Mrs. Bullock expressed concern about equity among schools with Academic and Athletic supplements.  She requested an Assistant Wrestling Coach be added to Keystone Heights High School.  Mrs. Gilhousen expressed interest in seeing how other counties calculate supplement salaries.

Board member comments included:

  • Clay County Fair starts today and runs through April 13.  
  • Positive comments about the Police Force.
  • Recent school events attended.
  • April 23rd Agenda Review Workshop will be moved to 10:00 a.m.
  • Budget planning should include specific expenditures for the Police Department.
  • An aggressive look at reducing insurance costs.
  • Request for a future workshop on the county's expected growth.
  • The agenda for the May 28th workshop will include an item for discussion on a District Millage Plan.
