Dr. Melanie Sanders presented information regarding Special Olympics in Clay County District Schools, highlighting initiatives that promote inclusion and recognizing Leaders in Inclusion, including Ronna Smith, Alyssa Alvarez, Brett Coston, Taryn Culliver, Jarrod Culliver, Kelsie Austin, Jessica Thomas, and Kristen Rhodes.

Student Speaker Tyler Brock, a sophomore at Clay High School, spoke about the impact of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs on student success and career readiness. He highlighted the opportunities CTE provides through industry certifications, college credit, hands on learning experiences, leadership development, and connections with local businesses, while sharing his personal experiences and achievements through the Agricultural Communications program and FFA.

The Board reached consensus that effective July 1, 2026, Board Member Elizabeth Clark will serve on the Value Adjustment Board, with Joseph Wiggins continuing as the citizen representative.

Superintendent Broskie shared a positive update highlighting student recognitions, graduation celebrations, and districtwide achievements. He noted projected academic results indicating the strongest performance in district history across multiple accountability measures, while stating that official confirmation would follow state release. He also outlined recent summer leadership activities centered on improving the student experience and school improvement efforts, and recognized student artists for notable state and national honors. He concluded by sharing upcoming start of school dates and expressing appreciation for a retiring staff member Treasure Pickett and her years of service.

Board Member Michele Hanson requested that text referenced during the Public Speaker portion be pulled and re evaluated using the district’s updated community rubric. She read a statement from Clay High School highlighting student achievement, community partnerships, and program growth, and recognized Clay High School for its accomplishments. 

Board Member Beth Clark spoke about graduation season, student accomplishments in athletics and other programs, and referenced the events related to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence which will happen at the upcoming Board Meeting.

Board Member Robert Alvero wished students and staff a positive summer and expressed anticipation for the next school year.

Board Member Ashley Gilhousen shared reflections from graduation, emphasized community connection across generations, and thanked teachers and staff for their work.

Board Chair Erin Skipper noted the volume of school year events and celebrations held throughout May.  Meeting was adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
