Minutes:

Ms. Brandon, who is a Civics teacher at Green Cove Springs Junior High School, was awarded the Military Veterans Volunteer of the Year for Clay County by the Northeast Florida Women Veterans Organization.  She was also selected as the VFW Post 1988 Military Teacher of the Year.  Superintendent Davis recognized Ms. Brandon as a recipient of these awards as well as the positive role model she is to her students and the community.  

 

Mr. Davis used the attached visual presentation to identify how he communicates with the School Board.  He reviewed the areas of focus for effectively communicating with the Board, the timeline for developing board meeting agendas and also how he communicates important information to the Board through email and phone calls.

Minutes:

At Chairman Kerekes' request, this item was moved up in the meeting agenda.  Mrs. Kerekes stated she was disappointed that Mr. D'Agata did not disclose that he was applying for a judgeship.  Following brief discussion, Mr. Broskie confirmed that Mr. D'Agata was not selected for the judgeship and that Mr. D'Agata had agreed to the terms of the contract with the School Board.

 

The Board thanked Dan Sikes, current Board Attorney, for his service and Mr. Sikes agreed to help facilitate a smooth transition for Mr. D'Agata.

Mrs. Bolla placed this item on the agenda for further discussion.  She had met with Dr. Michael Kemp, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, and learned new information that caused her to ask the Board to reconsider the previous decision.  There was Board discussion with differing opinions. Following the vote to reverse the action to rescind, Mr. Davis was asked to reset the launch and ensure adequate driver training.

Minutes:

Mrs. Kerkes pulled this item to discuss the supplements the bargaining team members receive.  She felt that their role on the bargaining team should be considered part of their job responsibilities and not include a separate supplement.  

 

Motion to approve was made by Mrs. Gilhousen and seconded by Mrs. Bolla.  Lengthy Board discussion followed with varying points of view.  Subsequently, the motion and second were withdrawn and consensus of the Board was to hold off on action until next month.

Board Member comments were heard.   By consensus, the Board agreed to participate in Master Board training on September 21-22, 2017, at Howey-in-the-Hills.
